Molly Seidel Interview – The Run Healthy Podcast

“Get rid of the ego. If a workout is on the schedule and you feel horrible, sick or are nursing a small injury, push it back a day! In the past I was such a hammerhead and would have so much ego and couldn’t admit that I needed to move that workout back a day. I would always push through and that would lead to me getting hurt.”

“In this marathon build up, we had quite a few workouts where I went into it feeling like sh*t. Jon Green, my coach, would just cut the workout and we’d do it another day. I hate to admit how many workouts i missed in the buildup, but it’s what kept me from going over the red line and getting hurt.”

Molly Seidel is a major rising star in the sport of running. Before she turned pro, she was Gatorade National Female Cross-Country runner of the year in high school, won 4 NCAA Division I titles and was the top female college cross country runner during her senior year in 2016. She’s also the queen of injury comebacks and has learned through setbacks of different kinds what it takes to run healthily and reach your goals.

This year at the Olympic trials, Molly wasn’t exactly THE favorite, but she pushed the hardest. In her first ever marathon, she crossed the line in 2:27:31, earning a place on Team USA and an all-expenses paid trip to the Tokyo Olympics. She realized the dream that many of us have growing up as children.

Today on the Run Healthy Podcast, we chatted about the mentality that’s allowed her to perfect the art of getting race ready without getting hurt, culminating in her Olympic qualifying time.
